In 2002 the Rescue evolved as a project of Institute of the Southwest, a nonprofit California corporation and 501c3 public charity established in 1998. After the president became aware of the plight and number of unwanted, abused, neglected and slaughterbound horses she felt obligated to spread the word about the Premarin industry in particular. Since that Spring of 2002 when we adopted our first horse, the organization has matured into a center for holistic healing and educational tool for the public.
