The PETA Kids in Dogs Cats & Marine Animal Directory

International animal rights organization explores welfare issues and suggests practical ways young people can make a difference. Includes online version of PETAs Grrr magazine as well as information on avoiding dissection. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with over 2 million members. Founded in 1980, PETA is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. PETA believes that all animals deserve the most basic rights—such as consideration of their own best interests—regardless of whether they are cute or useful to humans. Like you, they are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives. Therefore, they are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other purpose. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time—factory farms, laboratories, the fur trade, and the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” and the abuse of backyard dogs.
